History
Following its foundation, the club played mostly in regional leagues, before being acquired in 1996. Following the bid, Orlandina Basket obtained two consecutive promotions up to Serie B2 in 1998, when former Italy international star Alessandro Fantozzi was signed. The club won promotion to Serie B1 in 2000, and to LegADue, the second-highest division in Italian basketball, the next year. Orlandina, however, relegated to Serie B1 in 2003. Nevertheless, in 2004 Orlandina was admitted back to LegADue by the federation because of league vacancies. Successively to that, Orlandina dominated the 2004/2005 LegADue table and promoted to Serie A, becoming the fifth Sicilian city to be represented in the Italian top basketball division, after Catania, Palermo, Trapani and Messina.
In September 2008 Orlandina Basket was excluded from Serie A championship due to legal problems, together with Basket Napoli[2]. After this decision, the team restarted to play in Serie C Dilettanti, the fifth highest basketball league in Italy.[3]
Arena
Today, the team plays its home games in the PalaFantozzi (named after former Orlandina star Alessandro Fantozzi), seating 3,613 spectators.
