Milpitas Christian School is a private school located in the East foothills of San Jose, California whose mission is to transform lives by providing quality Christian education and childcare for your child. Students of all religions and ethnicities from age 2yrs and 9months through Eighth Grade are accepted.

Subjects offered in middle school

Bible, Mathematics (Pre-Algebra, Beginning Algebra, Algebra, Geometry), Science, Enrichment, Social Studies, Language Arts, Computers, Music, Physical Education. Extra curriculum include Sports (Basketball, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball), Honor Choir, Band, and Clubs.

Bible: helps students to develop a greater understanding of Scripture and how to apply it to their lives. There is usually a weekly memory verse, as well as discussions and debates, but strangely does not have debates with scientific evidence about most of the bible.

Mathematics: helps students to develop skill and understanding in mathematics principles. Pre-Algebra: a math course that helps a student develop an understanding of basic algebra Beginning Algebra: a math course that helps a student develop skills concerning algebraic principles at an intermediate level Algebra: a math course that helps a student develop skills concerning algebraic principles Geometry: a math course that helps a student develop skills concerning geometry

Science: enables a student to understand scientific principles. Sixth graders study earth science, seventh graders life science, and eighth graders physical science. Middle School allows students to enter SYNOPSYS Science Fairs and Future City Competitions. Milpitas Christian School has been well represented in numerous science competitions at both the regional and national levels, including representing the Northern California region in the national Future City competition for the past four years.

Social Studies: this course prepares students for citizenship wherein they study historical events, people, and places. This course also teaches some geography. Sixth graders study Ancient Civilizations, seventh graders study World History, and eighth graders study U.S. History.

Language Arts: a course that helps students to develop literary and writing skills. Language Arts also includes taking A.R. (Accelerated Reader) tests, which monitor students' development as readers, and STAR evaluations, which help to define a student's reading level.

Technology: helps a student understand how to operate Microsoft Office applications, the Internet, and the parts of a computer, and to apply the skills learned in everyday life. Emphasis is also placed on proper research and citation techniques. Students also use e-mail, online tools (such as wikis), and Google Earth in projects for technology class. In middle school, students attend technology class twice a week. Elementary students in grades one through five attend once per week.

Music: this course is part of enrichment and usually includes a musical in either winter or spring.

Physical Education: helps a student to increase physical activity and understand about health and nutrition. The mile is run every two weeks. In middle school, students attend P.E. class three times a week. Students turn in an exercise plan, called a workout, every month.

Extra Curricular: Sports: offers students a chance to compete in a wide variety of sports Honor Choir: allows students to participate in a more challenging singing environment. Includes CMEA festivals and occasional field trips to operas and/or musicals. Band: allows students to participate in a challenging instrumental environment. Includes Honor Band and Solo and Ensemble Festivals.

Spirituality

MCS has a required subject in its curriculum, which is a Bible class (hence the school name). Although students may not necessarily believe in the faith of Christianity, they are still required to participate in the Bible course. There is also a Christian flag salute when students recite the pledges. Chapel is also a part of MCS' faith in Christianity, which is mentioned below in "Traditions." Milpitas Christian School accepts students of all faiths.

Traditions

MCS has many traditions including:

• Chapel Uniform: The name given to the school uniform that is worn on Mondays for Elementary students, and Tuesdays for Middle School students. The chapel uniform for elementary boys are a white polo shirt, maroon vest with the school logo, navy pants, and black shoes. Elementary girls wear a white polo shirt, maroon vest with the school logo, navy skirt, and black shoes. Middle School students wear the same, except that the boys wear khaki pants and the girls wear khaki skirts. MCS students are encouraged to keep their shirts tucked in and wear belts.
• Chapel: Once a week, Milpitas Christian School has chapel. Elementary students have chapel on Mondays usually in the library while Middle School students have it on Tuesdays up in the cafeteria. During chapel, students and teachers sing songs of worship and there is a speaker who announces a moral message to the students.
• Spirit Week: The Middle School has about 2 or 3 spirit weeks each year, where students have a theme for 7 days in a certain week that they can dress up as, instead of wearing uniforms. For example, there are themes for "pajamas", "crazy hair", "cartoon", "twin day", "sports", "celebrity look-a-like", etc. Contests such as "Chubby bunny" or doughnut eating are held for a chance for grade levels to earn extra spirit points or to catch up to grade levels currently in the lead. Winning grade levels earn privileges to the student lounge, one free merit, one "No homework day", and the Spirit Week Trophy!
• Dress Down Days: Both Elementary and Middle School students have dress down days on a few occasional Fridays. There are themes that students can dress up for, including "crazy hat day", "cultural day", "cartoon day", etc.
• Student Lounge: Located in the middle school portable building is a student lounge were MCS students come to hang out during recess times and rainy days. A soda and snack machine are available for students to purchase items. There are notice boards posting events, academic achievements, and sport scores. A student store is located inside the lounge where students may purchase an after school snack.
• Outdoor Ed. & Washington D.C.: Starting in fourth grade students go on outdoor education field trip. During the field trip students learn the basics of surviving in the wild and the wonders of nature and the great outdoors. The length of the field trip can last from 3 days to a week. In eighth grade students and teachers take a trip to Washington D.C. were they visit famous landmarks. Eighth grade students also visit New York as part of their trip. The trip takes up to one week.
• Time Capsule: A time capsule ( which was Mr. Bloch's idea) was buried 20 years ago on March 31, 1990. It was opened in the library watched by Mr. Bloch, Mrs. Morasci, students of Mr. Bloch, and the entire school.
