Mahabir Prasad Asthana (born 1903, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India;[1] date of death 1976) was a freedom fighter and Congress Party leader.
Biography
He received his education in Lucknow. He joined the Indian independence movement and was chairman and secretary of the District Congress mandal Committee of Unnao. He was a follower of Gandhi, and took a role in non-violent demonstrations. He was jailed for few months for his participation in Lagan Bandi Aandolan in 1932, along with Vishambhar Dayal Tripathi. He was a close associate of Indira Gandhi, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, and Vishambhar Dayal Tripathi.
He founded and was chairman of a Junior high school at his home town of Safipur. He funded the school with his own money, in memory of Mahatma Gandhi. He also helped the poor farmers and other helpless person of the district.
