In the men's event, Marcel Buerge shot nearly perfect in the Prone segment of the 3 positions event, but failed to make the final in the Prone event itself by just a single point. He then proceeded to finish last in the 10 metre Air Rifle. In the Women's events, Cornelia Froelich made the final in the Air Pistol event, but missed a shoot-off for a medal by just 0.8 points.

Brunner and Schmid qualified fairly handily, and improved their free routine enough in the final to pass the Ukranian team for 10th overall. Still, they were five-and-a-half points out of medal position.

=Tennis=

The Swiss had three seeded entries in the Olympic Tennis tournament, but did not make a single quarterfinal, and only Patty Schnyder made the third round. In one of the biggest upsets in the men's singles, world #1 Roger Federer, in the midst of a season that would see him win three of the four Grand Slam tournaments, was defeated in the second round by 74th ranked Tomas Berdych. Federer broke Bedrych's serve just twice in three sets, and despite having five break points in the third set, could not produce a break, and was in turn broken by Berdych in the last game of the set to lose. Patty Schnyder may not have earned a medal, but did earn bragging rights over Daniela Hantuchova, as she beat her in both the singles' and doubles' events, though in each case Schnyder was eliminated in the next round.

=Triathlon=

Switzerland, having won gold and bronze medals in the first Olympic triathlon, returned to the Olympics in 2004 with five triathletes. They gathered another bronze medal as well as an eighth place finish. Riederer was 24th after the swim, but broke into the lead on the bike and ran strongly enough to hold onto the bronze medal by eight seconds.

=Volleyball=

Beach

Both Swiss men's pairs managed to qualify for the knockout round, and both had their tournament ended by the eventual gold medalists from Brazil. The Laciga brothers edged past one Brazilian team in the round of 16, but Ricardo and Emanuel handled them easily in the quarterfinals. Kobel and Heuscher gave the Brazilians a much sterner test in the semifinals, winning the second set and coming within three points of winning the third and final set as well. The Swiss then faced a rematch of a pool game in the bronze medal match, against an Australian team. The pool play match had been a close one, with the Swiss coming from behind to win in three sets, and the bronze medal match was similar, as the Australians opened up a lead, only to have Kobel and Heuscher win the last two sets and the medal. This was the first Olympic medal for the Swiss in volleyball.
