ratings =Jesus and Mo is a British
webcomic created by an artist using thepseudonym "Mohammed Jones". Launched in November 2005, the comic is published on itseponymous website twice a week.et-up
The simply drawn comic features two present day religious
prophet s, "Jesus" and "Mo". While "Jesus" is portrayed as the actualChristian prophet, "Mo" claims to be abody double , [http://www.jesusandmo.net/2005/11/24/body/] apparently usingcasuistry to get around the restriction inIslam of representing the prophetMuhammad pictorially. As the author is apparently not a believer in Islam, this does not apply to him.Jesus and Mo share an apartment [http://www.jesusandmo.net/2006/03/23/mess/] and occasionally venture outside, principally to a
public house , "The Cock and Bull", where they imbibeGuinness stout and engage in conversation and debate with anatheist female bar attendant known simply as "Barmaid", who is never drawn [http://www.jesusandmo.net/2006/02/08/baby/] but is characterised only as an out of framespeech bubble . They also converse with each other on a park bench [http://www.jesusandmo.net/2006/07/14/slow/] .A fourth character,
Moses , anotherAbrahamic prophet, appears in a few strips. TheHindu god Ganesh made a one-time appearance; both Jesus and Mo mocked his depicted weight and four arms.In September 2008, the author introduced animation to one of the panels.
Themes
The comic consists mainly of
religious satire , often criticizing arguments for religion [http://www.jesusandmo.net/2007/08/10/sense/] ,religious text s [http://www.jesusandmo.net/2006/05/16/wait/] and decrees [http://www.jesusandmo.net/2007/07/17/grief/] and the actions of believers [http://www.jesusandmo.net/2007/08/21/press/] . As the comic features only Christian and Muslim prophets, these are generally directed at the two religions, though some apply to many forms oftheism .In print
Episodes from Jesus and Mo have been published in paperback.Fact|date=October 2007 The first 1-50 and 51-100 strips are published in "Vol 1 "Where's the soap?" and "Vol 2 "Transubstantiated" respectively.
