Republic of South Ossetia

Emblem of the South Ossetian Republic

The national emblem used by the government of the Republic of South Ossetia, adopted in 1998, is based on the emblem of North Ossetia-Alania, designed by the Georgian scientist Prince Vakhushti Bagrationi in 1735.[1] It adds around that seal a border containing the Russian text for "Republic of South Ossetia", "Республика Южная Осетия" above the seal, and the Cyrillic Ossetic "Республикæ Хуссар Ирыстон" below the seal. The colours of the flag of South Ossetia, white, red, and yellow are used in smaller circles on either side and are similar to the circle found on the state emblem.[2]

Provisional Administrative Entity of South Ossetia

Logo of the Provisional Government

The device of the Provisional Administrative Entity of South Ossetia is similar to the emblem of North Ossetia-Alania, [1] i.e., a red disk with a yellow snow leopard with black spots standing on a yellow ground and with seven white mountains in the background. The mountains on the device symbolize the Ossetian landscape, while the Persian leopard is an iconic (but now seriously endangered) inhabitant of the Caucasus mountains.
