Biography
Medo was born and raised in Bo, Sierra Leone. During the civil war his parents were killed and football was the only thing that helped him to cope.
Football career
Early years
Medo started playing football at the age of 7 in his school in Bo. His older brother Kemoh Kamara was teaching in the school and taught also football. When he was 12, he joined his first club, Sierra Rangers. Rangers was a youth team that traveled around the country playing in youth tournaments. His football career took a great step forward when he signed for Sierra Leone National Premier League club FC Kallon in 2002. He was a regular member of the Sierra Leone under-17 team that lost to Cameroon at the 2003 African U-17 Championship Final in Swaziland. He was also a member of the Sierra Leone U-17 team which participated at the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Finland.
Moving to Finland
After the tournament he escaped, with a group of his teammates, from their accommodation and applied for asylum. The group got a right of asylum, but FIFA refused to give playing rights to them. Medo had to wait his player licence from the FIFA to his 18th birthday and then signed a contract with Kuopion Palloseura before the 2006 season. During the long waiting period he trained with JIPPO in Joensuu. After a season and relegation with the Kuopio based club, he moved to Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi in the Finnish capital.
In his first year with HJK he played in every league match and was voted for the club MVP of the season. In March 2008, he signed a new three-year contract, which would keep him with HJK until the end of the 2010 season.[2] In April 2010, he signed a contract extension at HJK to stay with the Finnish club until June 2011.[3] On 30 August 2010, he played his farewell match for HJK to win his team's 3–1 against IFK Mariehamn.[4]
Despite the fact that he left HJK before the end of the season, Medo was awarded for the 2010 Veikkausliiga Player of the Year.[5]
Partizan
A day after his last match for HJK, on 31 August 2010, he signed a three-year contract with FK Partizan. Medo was presented with another Partizan gain, Pierre Boya.[6] He made his debut for the club on 4 September in a home fixture against FK Hajduk Kula. Medo started and played for the full duration of the game as Hajduk were beaten 2–0. He also made five appearances in the 2010–11 UEFA Champions League group stage as Partizan finished bottom of their group.
International career
Medo has expressed his wish to play for the Finnish national team, but FIFA ruled this out as they rejected his application to play for Finland on 9 December 2010.[7] After FIFA's decision, Medo announced his availability for the Sierra Leonean national team and was subsequently called up to face Niger on 27 March 2011.[8] Finally, on 27 March 2011, Kamara debuted for his homeland playing the whole match against Niger.
