Ng Phek Hoong, Irene

Ng Phek Hoong Irene (zh-sp|s=伍碧虹|p=Wǔ Bìhóng; born 24 December 1963) is a Singaporean Member of Parliament who has represented Tampines GRC since 2001. She is also the chief editor of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) magazine.

In the 2001 and 2006 general elections, Ng's party, the People's Action Party, were up against the Singapore Democratic Alliance over Tampines GRC. On both occasions the PAP won with 73.34% and 68.51% of the votes respectively.

Prior to her political career, Ng was mainly involved in the field of journalism, working for, among others, Singapore Press Holdings.

Irene Ng caused some controversy during the 2006 General Election, when in a campaign speech she said that opposition MPs were troublemakers. This prompted a retort from Low Thia Kiang, MP for Hougang SMC and leader of the Worker's Party, who asked what trouble had he created in parliament. Low called for Ng to apologise for her comment. Low also added: "Mr Chiam See Tong has been in parliament seven years longer than me, what trouble has he also created?" Irene Ng has refused to apologise.

Ng is married to Scot Graham Berry.cite news | author = Sue-Ann Chia and Jaime Ee | title = MP Irene Ng weds | publisher = "The Sunday Times" | date = 29 July 2007]
