Ross Daniels was the
Australian Labor Party candidate for theDivision of Ryan in the Australian federal election in2007 . While he did not win, he achieved Labor's best result ever in Ryan at a General Election: a vote of 46.2% after a swing of 6.6%. The seat is expected to be a marginal - hence heavily contested - seat at the next Australian Federal Election.Ross was the Chairperson of
Amnesty International 's International Executive Committee from1993 to1997 . He has served on the Board of many community and welfare organisations, besides Amnesty International. He is currently a member of the Council of theQueensland University of Technology . He has also been President of the Queensland Council of Social Services.Daniels has been a Lecturer at the Queensland University of Technology for 20 years, and before that was a
social worker for 12 years. He met his wife Sharon while they were both social workers. He lives in The Gap, a suburb ofBrisbane . He and Sharon have four children. He holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree, a Bachelor of Economics degree, and a Masters degree in Social Planning and Development, all from theUniversity of Queensland .He has a strong interest in current science and technology debates including the application of information and communication technologies in teaching and learning. He is a
Brisbane Broncos fan and enjoys bike riding in the forest parks.Daniels opposes the
Iraq war , and has been involved in theIraq Solidarity Group , as well as groups seeking a peaceful solution to theIsraeli-Palestinian conflict .References
