This is a Broad gauge line which begins at Shoranur Jn Railway Station in Kerala and ends at Mangalore Central Railway Station in Karnataka. This line goes through major towns like Tirur - Kozhikode - Vadakara - Thalassery - Kannur - Payyannur - Kanhangad - Kasaragod - Uppala - Ullal and Manjeshwaram [1].
This line covers entire Districts of Malabar region in Kerala and terminate at Dakshin Kannada District of Karnataka after crossing Nethravathi River.
The Shoranur-Mangalore Section is a strategic route and the lifeline of Malabar's economy that inter connects the important cities of this regions and also serves as threshold to Tulu Nadu, Konkan and Mumbai from Kerala[2].
