Quarrel

James Bond Character

fgcolor=#fff
name=Quarrel
portrayed=John Kitzmiller
gender=Male
affiliation=Felix Leiter
status=Deceased
role=Ally
relatives=Son: Quarrel Junior

Quarrel is a fisherman in the Caribbean. He is an ally to James Bond in the novels "Live and Let Die" and "Dr. No" as well as the film "Dr. No" and is portrayed by John Kitzmiller. He also has a son Quarrel Jr. who appears in a later Bond film.

Novel Biography

Quarrel is a Cayman Islander who first appears in the novel "Live and Let Die". John Strangways, chief of the Secret Service's Caribbean station, hires him to serve as Bond's physical trainer and local guide as Bond prepares for his mission against Mr. Big. Bond and Quarrel immediately develop a strong friendship.

Quarrel's second and final appearance is in the novel "Dr. No". Again training Bond, Quarrel then accompanies him to Dr. No's island, Crab Key, to investigate Dr. No's operation there. Quarrel's assistance proves highly valuable, but he is burned to death when he, Bond, and Honeychile Rider are attacked by Dr. No's flamethrower-equipped marsh buggy.

In the novels there is no mention of Quarrel, Junior; since the later novel "Dr. No" preceded the earlier book "Live and Let Die" to the screen, Quarrel, Junior was the writers' way of getting around the fact of Quarrel's death.

Film Biography

Although not shown in the film, Quarrel helps John Strangways get some rock samples from Crab Key (island) When Strangways is killed by assassins employed by Julius No, Bond turns up in hope of finding his killer and goes to Quarrel for information. Quarrel does not immediately co-operate, instead threatening Bond with a knife. Bond then manages to turn the tables on Quarrel, at which point Felix Leiter arrives to tell them that they are all allies.

Later in the film, Quarrel goes with Bond to Crab Key even though he expresses fear of the alleged 'dragon' on the island. They meet up with Honey Ryder, and are forced inland, hunted by No's private army. Given their shared belief in the supposed dragon, Quarrel and Honey encourage Bond to set up shifts keeping watch for the beast, despite Bond's skepticism.

As the trio approached No's base, they encounter the dragon, a tank specially painted and designed to resemble the mythical creature. Bond and Quarrel attempt to destroy the search lights of the vehicle with their pistols, but Quarrel is detected and incinerated by the dragon's 'breath'; a front-mounted flame thrower.

In the film "Live and Let Die", Quarrel is revealed to have a son named Quarrel Junior.

Miss Caruso

James Bond Character

bgcolor=#039

name=Miss Caruso
portrayed=Madeline Smith
gender=Female
affiliation=Italian Authourities
status= Active
role=Bond girl

Miss Caruso is a fictional character in the James Bond film "Live and Let Die", played by actress Madeline Smith. She does not play a very large role in the story, appearing mostly in the opening almost as a sort of comic relief character. Miss Caruso was an Italian agent whom Bond apparently romanced on a previous mission, and she is found sleeping with him in the post-credits opening; when M and Moneypenny come to inform Bond of his mission, Miss Caruso, who is almost completely naked, snatches up her clothes and hides in the closet, but not before an embarrassing but quiet encounter with Moneypenny. After M and Moneypenny leave, Bond lets a relieved and grateful Miss Caruso out of the closet and tests his magnetic watch on her zipper (it works).

Quarrel Junior

James Bond Character

bgcolor=#039
fgcolor=#fff
name=Quarrel Junior
portrayed=Roy Stewart
gender=Male
status="Active/Unknown"
role=Ally
relatives=Father: Quarrel(deceased}|

In the James Bond film "Live and Let Die", Quarrel Junior is a fisherman in the Caribbean. He is an ally to Bond, and is portrayed by Roy Stewart. He also has a father, Quarrel, who appeared in "Dr. No".

Film Biography

When Bond and Rosie Carver need a boat to get closer to Dr. Kananga, Bond picks Quarrel Junior's. When Rosie finds a secret place with radio transmitters and weapons, she thinks Quarrel is a villain. Even more when she finds him behind Bond with some rope. She holds Quarrel at gunpoint until Bond clears the mess up. Quarrel helps Bond get to the island on several occasions.

At the end of the film Quarrel is the one who plants the explosives in the poppy fields that explode, and meets back with Felix Leiter.

Novel Biography

Quarrel Jr. does not appear in any novel but is based on Quarrel in the novel "Live and Let Die". Since the later novel "Dr. No" preceded the earlier book "Live and Let Die" to the screen, Quarrel Jr. was likely the writers' way of getting around the fact of Quarrel's death.

name=Sheriff J.W. Pepper
portrayed=Clifton James
gender=Male
affiliation=Sheriff
status="Active"
role=Ally
relatives=Wife: Maybelle
Brother-in-law: Billy-Bob

Sheriff J.W. Pepper is a comic relief recurring character in the James Bond films "Live and Let Die" and "The Man with the Golden Gun". He is portrayed by Clifton James.

LALD Film Biography

Sheriff J.W. Pepper is a sheriff from Louisiana in USA.

In Live and Let Die, the Sheriff follows the boat chase between Bond and several other people connected with Mr. Big. The Sheriff attempts to arrest Bond but finds out that he is a secret agent from England. He doesn't have much success catching any of Mr. Bigs henchmen or Bond, although he is canny enough to recognize the one henchman he does confront is dangerous and subdues him quickly. Unfortunately, his police car is wrecked by a boat pursuing Bond landing on it and as a result a henchman escapes. He was ready to arrest Bond after he returns to port, but Felix Leiter and another policeman stopped him.

* (Pepper-after chasing Bond all over Louisiana and finally catching him, then being told Bond is a Secret Agent) "A SECRET AGENT??!! ON WHOSE SIDE??!!"

TMWTGG film biography

Later in "The Man with the Golden Gun", the Sheriff is on vacation with his wife in Thailand where he recognizes Bond (on a boat in a river). The Sheriff is then caught in a car chase with Bond chasing Scaramanga. Sheriff Pepper is in a car dealership looking at a car when Bond, in pursuit of Scaramanga, hops in the car, an AMC Hornet, and drives through a display window, with Pepper seated beside him. He might have been arrested by the Thai police. He claims that his wife and him are United States Democrats.
* (Pepper) "Now" I know you!"
* (Bond) "Oh, no..."
* (Pepper) "You're that secret agent! That English secret agent from England!"

Note that in TMWTGG, J.W. Pepper refers to himself at part of the Louisiana State Police.

Character

Sheriff J.W. Pepper is mainly used as a comic relief and is known to spit out tobacco and yell out loudly anything he has on his mind. He makes crude comments on people he sees, and things that they do. His character is a progenitor of such later "Southern Hick Police" characters such as Rosco P. Coltrane and Buford T. Justice.
