Craig Fiegener is an American journalist working in Southern California. As of September 2011, he is working for NBC4 as their Inland Empire General Assignment Reporter.[1] Fiegener first worked for the CBS owned-and-operated Los Angeles television station KCBS-TV in 2002 as an Inland Empire Bureau Reporter, covering the Riverside-San Bernardino region. After leaving KCBS-TV in December 2006, he was the Managing Editor of InstantRiverside.com.[2] He was also a contributing reporter to the national cable news operation of CBS News on Logo.[3]
Fiegener grow up in the Riverside community and began his broadcasting career when he was 14. He got his first break hosting a weekend radio show at KMAY. While a student at John W. North High School[1], he worked weekends at KTSJ in Pomona. After graduation, he was the morning host and program director at KHSJ in Hemet. Fiegener also attended California Southern Law School in Riverside.[1]
In 1993, Fiegener became the first Inland Empire Bureau Reporter for Los Angeles radio station KFI. At the same time, he was taking an interest in television news. He handled reporting jobs at KESQ-TV in Palm Springs, and the Orange County Newschannel. In 1996, he moved to ABC's KFSN in Fresno, where he was received a local Emmy Award.[4][1] While in Fresno, he reported for the top-rated morning news, and started KFSN's consumer watch series, which he produced and reported until returning home to Southern California and KCBS-TV.
In 2000, he was awarded an Emmy for Best Investigative Reporting. It recognized his work on a story that exposed a rental housing scheme which cost more than 30 unsuspecting Fresno tenants thousands of dollars. In 2000 and 2002,[5] The Associated Press Television and Radio Association has recognized him in its "Reporter of the Year"[1] in the Best Consumer Reporting category.
