Career

David H. Steinberg grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut where he attended William H. Hall High School, entered Yale at age 16, and earned his law degree from Duke University, where he served as editor-in-chief of the law review.[1] After four years of entertainment law in Atlanta and New York, he abandoned his legal career to attend USC's Peter Stark Producing Program.[2] Before graduating, Steinberg sold his first spec script called Slackers.[3] Steinberg was immediately hired by Universal to write the first two drafts of American Pie 2.[4]

Filmography

Steinberg also wrote After School Special, a story about three high school friends who attempt to make a porn movie.[5] The movie was eventually released under the title National Lampoon's Barely Legal.[6] In addition, Steinberg wrote the 7th and 8th movies in the American Pie series, American Pie Presents: The Book of Love, released in 2009, and American Pie Presents: East Great Falls, currently in development.

Steinberg wrote and directed the short film The Babysitter, which can be viewed exclusively at Atom Films. His feature film directorial debut is called Miss Dial and stars Robinne Lee and Sam Jaeger.[7]

His latest screenplays to go into production were DisneyToon Studios' Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow Games, which premiered on the Disney Channel in October 2011, and the DreamWorks animated feature film Puss In Boots, released in theaters October 28, 2011. He is currently writing the live-action body-switching movie Furry Friday for New Line Cinemas[8] and a TV pilot for ABC Family.

Steinberg has also written other scripts for studios. These include:

  • Only Human, a sci-fi comedy for Sony Pictures Entertainment;
  • The Fool's Errand, a family animation script he sold as a pitch to Disney;
  • Other People's Wishes, a high-concept comedy for Warner Brothers;
  • Love at Second Bite, the sequel to the 1979 comedy Love at First Bite;
  • Sprung, a comedy for New Line Cinemas;
  • Porky's, the theatrical remake of the classic 1982 comedy;
  • The Anubis Tapestry, a family adventure movie for Fox Animation Studios;
  • Big Fat Liar 2, a sequel to the 2002 movie for Universal Studios.

In addition, Steinberg wrote an op-ed piece for the Los Angeles Times about over-reaching airline security measures,[9] and was featured in the newspaper's profile about how the recession and entertainment industry changes have affected screenwriters.[10]
