The Town of East Fremantle is a Local Government Area in the southern suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth, located immediately northeast of the port city of Fremantle and about convert|17|km|mi|0 southwest of Perth's central business district. The Town covers an area of convert|3.1|km2|sqmi|1, maintains 46 km of roads and has a population of 6,697 (2006).

History

In 1897, the East Fremantle Municipal Council was gazetted. On 1 July 1961, it became a Town Council following changes to the Local Government Act. [WA Electoral Commission, "Municipality Boundary Amendments Register" (release 2.0), 31 May 2003.]
