San Francisco ,United States –basedDarkwave band which was formed in1989 by composer Susan Wallace and vocalistTina Root . They released their first album in1995 on theCleopatra Records label. They also had two live guitarists, firstRobin Jacobs and then George Earth, and two live drummers, firstEric Gebow (now withBlue Man Group ) and thenScott van Shoick .Switchblade Symphony's music combined
orchestral sounds with heavy synth sequences andethereal vocals to create a highly original sound resemblingThe Flower Duet sung over a twisted union ofclassical music andgothic rock . The band's name refers to this union, the result of cutting up elements of classical music to mix them with harder sounds.cite web |last=Porter |first=Alicia |url=http://www.darkwaver.com/eklectique/switchblade.html |title=Eklectique: An Interview with Switchblade Symphony|accessdate=2007-02-08] Though this sound is uncommon, it might be compared withRhea's Obsession ,Siouxsie , [cite web |last=Sukkarieh |first=Said |url=http://www.musicfolio.com/modernrock/Switchblade_S.html |title=Switchblade Symphony|accessdate=2007-03-18]Cindergarden , The Machine in the Garden andDead Can Dance .Switchblade Symphony disbanded in November
