Northstar California (also called Northstar-at-Tahoe) is a year-round resort situated near the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in Placer County, California, approximately 200 mi (320 km) from the San Francisco Bay Area. The 3,000 acres (1,200 ha) resort features 2,280 ft (690 m) vertical drop downhill terrain accessed by 19 lifts (including 8 express lifts), a snowmaking system, a cross-country center, the new Village at Northstar, on-site lodging and summer activities including an 18-hole golf course and a lift-served mountain bike park.

Since 2010, Northstar has been owned by Vail Resorts, which also operates Heavenly Ski Resort at Lake Tahoe and four other ski resorts in Colorado, including Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone, and Beaver Creek.

Over the last several years, Northstar California has transformed into a year-round mountain resort including a new village featuring a variety of shops, restaurants, art galleries, jewelry boutiques, luxury condominiums and a 9,000 sq ft (840 m²) skating rink. There are plans to further expand the terrain with the cutting of new runs and the addition of new lifts. Recently, a new Ritz-Carlton opened to provide luxury accommodations reflecting the desire to attract a more affluent clientele.

Northstar may be reached via California State Route 267, which connects it to Truckee and Interstate 80 to the northwest, and Kings Beach on the shore of Lake Tahoe to the southeast.
