Volkswagen Group T platform
- Volkswagen Group T platform
The Volkswagen Group T platform is a van platform from Volkswagen Group. It has been used for the Volkswagen Transporter range, from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, for over 55 years. Though not technically a platform until recently (enthusiasts retroactively named the T1-T3), it is still an official Volkswagen platform.
T1
1950-1967 - Initially based on the Volkswagen Type 1, also known as the Beetle, the T1 was the first generation of VW's hugely successful T platform.Known to enthusiasts as "Split screens" or "Splitties".
T2
1968-present - The T2 platform is basically a cosmetically upgraded T1 (since only one vehicle shares the platform at this point, the distinction is used for both the Type 2 generation and platform), with a VW Type 4 engine optionally available from 1972 on. The T2 is presently built as the Transporter in Brazil.
