Nálumávàdi (நாலுமாவடி) is a settlement on the southern edge of the Indian peninsula at about 9ºN latitude and 78ºE longitude, in Thoothukudi District. The population of this village is less than 5000 comprising about 200 families. In this village mango groves were aplenty. in the midst of four big Mangifera indica trees, and it was called Nálumávàdi: in the local language, Tamil, it means ‘under the shadow of four mango trees’.[citation needed]

Religion
Though Hindu people are the majority, this village has exclusive streets for Christians and Muslims inside the village. There are many Hindu temples, a couple of churches and a mosque, servicing the needs of any religion. All people are friendly and have been living in harmony for many years, forgetting their religious differences. The "Jesus Redeems", a well known church, caters to people from all over the world. The last Saturdays of a week are special here with various speakers talking about Christianity. The Ramadhan is celebrated equally well in the Muslim street, where Hindu/Christian friends are usually invited for a big feast on the fast breaking day.
A Church of South India congregation was established in 1841 by Revd John Thomas and St John's church was built in 1842, extended in 1850 and rebuilt in 1926. The pastorate is part of the Tirunelveli diocese.
