History
Formed on the Gold Coast in late 2000, Mourning Tide began with the intent to cater to the hardcore/metal scene. The 4 piece gained a solid local following on the strength of their live performances. The next three years were spent touring, providing support for bands such as Strung Out, Soilwork, and Cro-Mags, before moving onto headlining shows. The fanbase was derived from these early performances, before Mourning Tide had the opportunity to release their first CD.
In 2003 they released their debut self titled EP through Modern Music, which received a 4/5 star review in Kerrang! magazine and airplay on Triple J. Now in its second pressing, the EP has helped Mourning Tide gain a strong east coast following.
The following year brought changes to the Mourning Tide lineup, with the addition of a second guitarist and a new drummer. With the music evolving to include hard rock influences, a new sound had developed, punctuated by dirty rock vocals and blistering lead guitar, combined with the melodic hardcore which Mourning Tide had perfected on their debut EP.
2005 saw Mourning Tide play numerous shows including national supports for Eighteen Visions and Parkway Drive which further added to their ever growing fan base. Writing for their debut album began towards the year's end and recording began at the end of January 2006.
Recorded & produced again at Modern Music with Dave Leonard, the album, titled “Trash’n’Burn”, was released in August 2006, with a headline east coast tour in the same month. With its combination of hard rock sleaze and brutal hardcore, the album received strong reviews & a spot in the Top 100 albums of 2006 in Blunt magazine, as well as consistent airplay on Triple J’s Short.fast.loud program. On the strength of the album and their intense live shows, Mourning Tide received a headline slot on the V Energy stage at the Gold Coast Big Day Out 2007, playing to a large and excited festival crowd. Mourning Tide had a solid run of shows booked well into 2007, playing Overcranked Festival in March and Come Together Music Festival in June, as well as numerous headlining East Coast shows.
2008 saw Melbourne based booking agency Destroy All Lines (DAL) successfully sign the band to their roster. A major winter headlining tour followed with new DAL label mates House Vs. Hurricane as well as international supports with Tiger Army and The Devil Wears Prada. The rest of the year was dedicated to writing their new, currently untitled, second album.
2009 is now shaping up to be the band’s biggest year yet with the band tracking the new album in Australia and mixing in the US with renowned engineer/producer Steve Evetts (Dillinger Escape Plan, Everytime I Die, Sepultura, He Is Legend, Hatebreed). The release is due mid 2009 and the band is pumped to take the new material out on the road to their loyal fans.
New self titled album was released October 31, 2009.
