Past_members =Econoline Crush is a band from
Winnipeg ,Manitoba ,Canada formed in 1992. Originally formed inSeattle , they eventually moved back toVancouver ,British Columbia ,Canada , where they have been the most successful. Notable singles include "Wicked", "Home", "Sparkle & Shine", "Make It Right", "All That You Are", "You Don't Know What It's Like" & "Dirty".After their album "Brand New History", the band seemed to be on hiatus or disbanded, since
Trevor Hurst started his own band called simply Hurst. However, as of January 2007, Econoline Crush have gotten together again and are currently on a tour aroundCanada withAlice Cooper .Band history
Econoline Crush was formed in 1992 when
singer Trevor Hurst moved fromCanada toSeattle and answered an ad for a new band in a localnewspaper .Econoline Crush, an upcoming Vancouver band managed by ex-Queensrÿche managers Harris Music Group. In 1993 Econoline Crush signed a record deal with EMI Music Canada after playing only 26 shows.
In 1994, the band released their first EP called "Purge", with producer Dale Penner (Nickelback) at helm, and the band started building a steady following. The album even garnered them a nomination for a
Juno Award in Canada. Two years later, they followed it with the full-lengthalbum , "Affliction" which cemented their popularity in their homeland even more.After some management shuffles, EC released their first full length LP, 1995’s “Affliction,” this time working with famed producer Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly, Delirium, Conjure One, Fear Factory). An extensive Canadian tour followed, while at the same time the “Purge” EP was nominated for a Juno Award. 1995 also saw EC tour Europe three times, with the Young Gods, Die Krupps, and Waltari, culminating in an appearance at the POP KOMM Festival in Köln, Germany with Filter.
1996 witnessed the continual rise of EC through the music biz ranks as they signed on with the legendary management group Bruce Allen Talent (Bryan Adams, Michael Buble, Bob Rock, Bruce Fairbairn, Loverboy, BTO) while also setting foot in a legendary studio to record: Sound City, where Nirvana, Kyuss, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Slayer, Johnny Cash all made history. This excursion paired EC with yet another famed producer, Sylvia Massy-Shivy (Tool, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash), to create 1997’s The Devil You Know LP. The commercial success and critical acclaim that shortly ensued launched EC on cross-Canadian tours with KISS, Foo Fighters, Green Day & others, and the subsequent 1998 USA release of The Devil You Know on Restless Records found them touring the USA and (once more) Canada extensively with KISS, Stabbing Westward, God Lives Underwater, and again, many others. As the millennium approached, EC’s name and reputation grew (along with it’s fanbase), and EC songs were featured on TV shows such as Melrose Place, Psi Factor, ESPN, and others. The band also received their second Juno nomination for the TDYK album, and was asked to perform live at the televised Juno ceremony. Meanwhile EC received Gold & Platinum awards for sales of TDYK.
However, it was 1998's "The Devil You Know" that proved to be the band's
breakthrough . With a slightly more mainstream sound shaped by their producerSylvia Massy (Prince,Red Hot Chili Peppers , Tool, etc), thealbum amplified the band'saudience . The album already was certified Platinum status inCanada and features five singles including, "Surefire", "Sparkle and Shine", "Home", "All That You Are (x3)", and "Razorblades and Bandaids". With the success of "The Devil You Know" the band tried to breakthrough to the United States and toured with bands like KISS,The Tea Party and others. However, they didn't get the response they expected. AThe Boomtang Boys remix of "All That You Are (x3)" also became popular in Canada and was also released in 1998.The band went to
California to work on their next album with producersBob Rock and DJ Swamp, and with collaborations fromChris Vrenna (formerly fromNine Inch Nails )Paul Raven ( Killing Joke, Prong, Ministry). In 2001, they released "Brand New History " to mixed reviews, despite some moderate commercial success. This caused the band to temporarily disband, and each of the members dedicated time to other projects. The album also contained the single "You Don't Know What It's Like", which was previously released in 1999 onBig Shiny Tunes 4 , volume four of a series of Canadian rock compilations byMuchmusic .Trevor Hurst has recently announced on his Myspace page that he is currently working on a new Econoline Crush record. The band has recently done a tour in Canada with
Hinder .Trevor Hurst was in the studio writing songs with Kai (Noise Therapy / Methods of Mayhem) for the new album. Econoline Crush (
Brent Fitz , Scott Whalen, Kai, Trevor Hurst) recorded their latest album called "Ignite" withSylvia Massy @ Radiostar Studios, Weed, California in August which was released on January 15th 2008. Econoline Crush successfully completed a Canadian tour with Three Days Grace and Seether in January/February 2008 [http://chartattack.com/damn/2007/12/1408.cfm] .News as of November 2007 : The new single, Dirty, [http://www.myspace.com/econolinecrush2007 Econoline Crush Myspace] , has been doing great on radio with lots of airplay. The video for "Dirty" is in heavy rotation on MuchLoud, and is in rotation on MuchMusic.
The band toured western Canada in August 2008 with 3 Doors Down, Staind, and Hinder.
Econoline Crush will be touring across Canada with Alice Cooper in September and October 2008.
