Established in 1929 The
University College of Engineering has the distinction of being the oldest and the biggest inAndhra Pradesh .Established in the year 1929, eleven years after the formation ofOsmania University , it was the 245th Engineering College to be established in the whole ofBritish India .
The college moved to its present permanent building in the year 1947. Today it is the biggest among the campus colleges of Osmania University. There are 103 teaching staff members, including professors. The college is home to the cream of talent in both the Under Graduate and Post-Graduate B.E. and M.E. courses offered. The College celebrated Golden Jubilee year in 1979, Diamond Jubilee year in 1989 and Platinum Jubilee in the year 2005 . The college has conferred autonomous status in the academic year 1994-95.
The institution has been adjudged by ISTE as the Best Engineering College in the Country for its overall performance in the year 2003, the Principal of the College Prof.D.N.Reddy has bagged the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Best Principal award at the National Level.
The college has been selected as one of the few lead-institutions in the country, under Technical Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of the Government of India, being funded by World Bank for revamping Technical Education System in the country and for introducing demand-driven courses and cutting-edge technologies.
The College has well equipped laboratories and workshops. Most of the graduates of the Institution are placed in executive positions in National and International Institutions and Corporations of repute through on-campus recruitment.

Biomedical Engineering involves the study of Engineering processes of organ-systems function, disfunctions and the development of technology involved in the assessing organ-systems function, as well as in assisting and treating dysfunctional organ-systems.
Biomedical Engineering is a rapidly changing interdisciplinary domain, in which each branch of engineering interacts with a number of other disciplines to yield a fundamental understanding of health maintenance processes and improved diagnosis, better health-care and prolonged life expectancy. Osmania University took a pioneering step in 1982 to introduce a four year undergraduate degree program in Biomedical Engineering (BME), the first of its kind in the country. The department recently celebrated silver jubilee
Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering was the first to be established, in 1929, with an intake of 12 students. The department offers Masters and Doctoral Degree programmes in different specializations, such as Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engg., Hydromechanics and Water Management and sponsored programme in Construction Engineering & Management. The department celebrated its golden jubilee in 1979 and diamond jubilee in 1989.
The Department has developed expertise over the years in concrete technology, recycled aggregate concrete, and composites besides finite element analysis, bridge engineering, tall structures, foundation engineering, environmental engineering, integrated expert systems, and fuzzy logic applications. The research projects include ultra high performance concrete (UHPC), water and air quality studies, water management, wind tunnel studies, geo-textiles, seismic resistant structures, bridges, and computer applications.nowadays civil engineering department very important in the world wide
Computer Science and Engineering
In a path breaking effort, Osmania University embarked in 1981 on the Computer Science & Engineering Programme, when the U.G.C. identified the University for its manpower development Programme. The Department offers B.E., MCA, M.Tech and MSIT programs.Excellent interaction exists between the Department and R&D organizations and software development establishments in the twin cities.
Keeping in view the areas of specialization of the faculty, and the excellent environment for software development in and around Hyderabad, the following areas have been identified for research leading to M.Tech./Ph.D. degrees : Artificial Intelligence, Functional Languages, Computer Networks, Computer Graphics and Real-Time Fault Tolerant Systems. M.Tech. Students are attached to industry on a full-time basis for their dissertation on relevant and need-based topics, providing real-life problem environment. The research work encompasses System Software Simulation and Modeling,Artificial Intelligence,Real-Time Systems,Implementation of Functional Languages,DBMS Applications. Data Communications and Networks and Security Computer Graphics, Image Processing and pattern Recognition, Microprocessor - Based Systems, Distributed Processing, Mobile Computing.
Electrical Engineering
The department started as a part of the Civil Engineering Department in the form of an Electro-Techniques Laboratory.
The full-fledged Department of Electrical Engineering came into being in 1949. The Telecommunication course became the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, offering a four-year degree course in that area. Continuing education for employed diploma-holders was started in 1963 through the four-year Part-Time Degree Course in Electrical Engineering.
The Department has a track record of having interacted fruitfully with industry. It has organized several need-based intensive programmes for practicing engineers of NTPC,BHEL,ATI,ECIL,Kirloskar Electric Company.
Electronics and Communication Engineering
The Department of Electronics & Communications Engineering came into being in 1959 with only two faculty members. In a span of three and half decades, it has grown considerably and now has 18 teaching staff and 300 students at Undergraduate & Postgraduate levels. The staff has specialized in the fields of digital systems, Control Systems, Signal Processing, Microwave, Microprocessor applications, Computer Systems and Communication Engineering.
The Department has a proud record of research in several areas. Many projects sponsored by Research & Development have been successfully executed. The Department has research facilities and expertise in the fields of Microwave Engineering, Digital Signal Processing & Digital Communications.?
Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical Engineering Department was established in the year 1939 to offer a three year degree course in Mechanical Engineering, with an intake of 50 students. Subsequently the strength was increased to 60. Recognizing the importance and the need to impart training in the emerging areas, the department started M.E. courses production engg, Turbo machinery, Automation and Robotics, CAD/CAM and Tool Design for working engineers for both regular and part-time students.
The department faculty members are actively involved in various National Committees as well as in World Bank-assisted projects. The department has organized eleven National Seminars/Conferences/Workshops/Short-term programs in various thrust areas such as CAD/CAM, stress analysis using FEM, Optimization of energy, Recovery systems and metal spinning. The department has also undertaken consultancy projects from Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Hyderabad) on stress analysis of turbine supporting systems and preparation of CAD documentation. This department is slowly degrading in its fame of producing some quality mechanical engineers because of good faculty leaving the department , Also students are now inclined towards software jobs rather than core mechanical stuff.
