It was named in honor of V.J. and Angela Skutt, the longtime Chairman of Mutual of Omaha and his wife, who were large donors toward the school's construction. The school has a 1:16 teacher-student ratio.[2] It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Omaha.

Sports, clubs, and traditions
Every year the school hosts an "Angel Flight", which is a fundraising event. The school holds an All-Alumni Weekend for two days every July. They also host a Mr. SkyHawk Pageant. This is comical event that pokes fun at beauty pageants. Some others are Hawktober, Powder Puff Football, Popsicle Day, Surprise Movie Day and Morp (Sadie Hawkins Dance).
Athletic achievements
School sports are baseball, basketball (boys, girls), bowling, cross country, football, golf (boys, girls), ice hockey, powerlifting, soccer (boys/girls), softball, swimming (boys, girls), tennis (boys, girls), track and field, trapshooting, volleyball, and wrestling, as well as intramurals. In 2009, Skutt made wrestling history with their 12th straight Class B wrestling title. On 19 November 2005, Skutt won the Class B 2005 football title, versus the McCook Bison.[3] Other Skutt teams winning Class B State Championships in 2005-2006, included wrestling, boys basketball, girls soccer, girls tennis, and boys golf. Within trapshooting, titles were won by the 1st Squad for the Handicaped Division, and third overall in Class B. Skutt Catholic has also won the class B state wrestling title for 13 years running as of 2009 (a Nebraska state record) Skutt Catholic has 2nd place finishes in Powerlifting but has yet to win.
After three years with the Creighton University Soccer Team, Tony Schmitz (a 2004 alumnus), was selected in the 2008 MLS Superdraft by four time MLS Cup Champion DC United. [4]
