KHJL
KHJL signed on in
1963 with thecall letter s KNJO, broadcasting from a studio in the Park Oaksshopping center inThousand Oaks, California . The station's claim to fame at the time was that it was the first FMradio station on the West Coast to broadcast instereo . KNJO was a community radio station regarded as a training ground for new talent. For a time, the studio technician was 10 year old Steve Webb, who is now the founder ofRadio Brandy .KHJL was required to move their transmitter off of
Rasnow Peak due to the move of KJLL-FM to Fountain Valley which caused a shadow in Simi Valley which KHJL is required to serve with a city-grade signal. Without first consulting the city, KHJL moved the transmitter to one of the old 850 AM towers, but the city demanded that the transmitter be moved again. The lease on the land, on which the towers sat, was up and could not be renewed. The city then knocked down the towers and built houses on the location. KHJL now broadcasts from a less than desirable location delivering a poor signal inSanta Clarita, California where KHJL used to be one of the strongest FM signals on the dial.KHJL added a translator on
Castro Peak at 38watt s nearMalibu, California , and recently obtained aconstruction permit to increase the power to 45watt s.KJLL-FM
KJLL-FM signed on in
1993 with thecall letter s KRCI then KLIT, (later changed to the present KJLL) originally broadcasting fromCatalina Island at 3,000watt s entering asimulcast of KHJL. Thesimulcast aired abeautiful music format that later evolved into anadult contemporary music format branded as "Lite 92.7".KJLL-FM was later purchased by
Amaturo Group and turned into atrimulcast with KAJL, which was originally located inRiverside, California .KJLL-FM was moved to
Fountain Valley, California with a change of transmitter location, broadcasting from a mountain south ofNewport Beach, California at 690watt s. This provided a better signal coverage of the interior portions ofOrange County, California .KAJL
KAJL signed on in
1959 with thecall letter s KHNY, originally broadcasting fromRiverside, California at 6,000watt s.KHNY adopted numerous music formats and
call letter s until atrimulcast of KJLL-FM/KHJL was created airing thebeautiful music format and station branding of the sister stations as "Lite 92.7".KAJL moved from
Riverside, California toAdelanto, California , to serve theVictor Valley, California area. KAJL broadcasts from the same mountain as most ofVictor Valley, California radio station s. The station no longer has a listenable signal in the Riverside-San Bernardino area. In order to make the move,Amaturo Group paid 92.7KZIQ fromRidgecrest, California to move their tower off the mountain and down intoRidgecrest, California .KZIQ 's signal does not extend much pastRidgecrest, California to prevent interference with KAJL.Format Change
Since the coverage area had been shifted after the moves of all 3 transmitters, and with the arrival of
Jack FM onKCBS-FM ,Amaturo Group dismissed the airstaff of "Lite 92.7" abandoning the music format in favor of an automatedadult hits music format branded as "Jill-FM".External links
