Dhanera is a city and a municipality in Banaskantha district in the northern part of the state of Gujarat, India. It is close to the city of Deesa.

Dhanera Taluka uvak pagati mandal is one of the most famous charitable trusts in Dhanera. This trust runs several educational institutes in Dhanera. H.K. Akoliya vivekanand vidyalaya is the best school run by this Trust. Mr J.K.Patel- former M.l.A and Mr Harajivanbhai Patel -the former minister tried to make it famous.

Geography

Dhanera is located at 24°31′N 72°01′E / 24.52°N 72.02°E / 24.52; 72.02.[1] It has an average elevation of 128 metres (420 ft).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Dhanera had a population of 22,183. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Dhanera has an average literacy rate of 55%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 67% and, female literacy is 42%. In Dhanera, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Religious aspect of Dhanera

This place is also considered one of the holy places, the temple here of Shri Shantinath Swami is approximately 150 to 200 years old. The original idol of Shri Shantinath Swami has started going in the ground and the idol of new Shantinath Swami which is established above was found by the old pujari Dalcha maharaj. He dreamt of a particular location and actually he found the idol from there only

And also the temple here of Shri Sundarpuri Maharaj in village of Valer, 8 km away from Dhanera. Every month sukla 5th (Panchami) MANY people come to pray to Shri Sundarpuri Maharaj.

The first diksha of Dhanera was held on Vaishakh sud 6th in the samvat 1781.

In samvat 2022 the holy temple of Acharaya Shri Rajendrasuriswarji Maharasaheb was established under the guidance of Acharaya Shri Vidyachandrasuriswarji Maharasaheb.

The first railway line was launched in dhanera on 1956 after lots of effort put by Shri Surajmal Mavajibahi (First MLA from dhanera) and Shri Gaffurbhai Savani

Every year a unit of Dhanera named "Shri Dhanera Jain Pal Unit" welcomes all the people of Cha gao Jatra on fagun sud Teras.

Another contribution of the people of Dhanera is the establishment of "Shri Dhanera Bhuvan" in Palitana. It was established under the guidance of Param Pujya Muniraj Jambuvijay Maharasaheb on 19 January 1995.

At times the Jains of Dhanera have set up many charitable institutions like hospitals, schools, boardings, Ambilshalas, temples etc.

The people of Dhanera also run the Dhanera Panjrapole on whole of the Gujarat at the state level. It is one of the number one institutions exercising all their valuable efforts in saving wildlife at any cost.
