Bangarapet (Kannada ಬಂಗಾರಪೇಟೆ ) is a town in Kolar district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Bangarapet was originally called Maramootlu before it changed to Bowringpet, named after an officer working in the Kolar Gold Fields. This town came into existence as the connecting point for the traffic between the gold fields and Bangalore.

Bangarapet is bordered by both Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

This town was famous in Karnataka for its rice trading. The popular languages spoken here are Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Marati, Urdu & Hindi.

FAMOUS PERSONALITIES

K.C.Reddy or Kysamballi Chengalraya Reddy (1902 1976) was the first Chief Minister of the old Mysore state (Karnataka) in India. He belonged to Kysamballi village of Bangarapet taluk.

Bangarapet is also famous for karaga. The season of karaga is usually termed as jaathre, and is a type of festival in the town. It is also known for kothanda rama temple theru (a kind of holy chariot).
