State Route 872 (SR 872, OH 872) is an extremely short east-west state highway in southeastern Ohio. Its primary function is to connect State Route 7 with the Moundsville Bridge over the Ohio River near Shadyside. The highway comes to an end on the bridge at the West Virginia state line, where it connects to an unsigned spur route that goes on to meet West Virginia Route 2 at the east end of the bridge in Moundsville, West Virginia. This four-lane route is less than 0.75 mile (1.21 km) in length.

Route description

The starting point of State Route 872 is at a diamond interchange between the State Route 7 expressway and Mead Township Highway 533 approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south of Shadyside. Heading east from the interchange with a four-lane cross-section and median concrete barrier, State Route 872 interects one side road in a setup where approaching cross road traffic must turn right onto the corresponding direction of State Route 872, as the concrete barrier prevents traffic from being able to cross the state highway. State Route 872 then accesses the Moundsville Bridge, as it spans the waters of the Ohio River. At about the midspan of the bridge, State Route 872 hits the West Virginia state line, and comes to an end. Continuing east across the remainder of the bridge and into Moundsville, West Virginia to a junction with West Virginia Route 2 is an unsigned spur route.[2]

Major intersections

The entire route is in Belmont County.
