Petković has been capped eleven times for the Serbia national team and is the son of the team's former coach Ilija Petković. He was called up to the 2006 FIFA World Cup squad on 29 May after Mirko Vučinić was injured, but withdrew from the roster following media criticism of the fact that it was his father who selected him.[1]
