Kurilsk

Kurilsk ( _ru. Кури́льск; _ja. 紗那村, "Shana") is a town in Sakhalin Oblast, Russia, situated on the island of Iturup. It is the administrative center of Kurilsky District. Population: 2,233 (2002 Census); 2,699 (1989 Census).

Under the Japanese administration that ended in 1945, the village of Shana was the central settlement of the island. As of August 15, 1945, the population of the village was 1,001.
