Lewington made his Wimbledon first team debut towards the end of the 2002–03 season as a substitute in the 4–2 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday after coming through the Youth ranks, and was voted Player of the Year just over one year later after a succession of impressive performances saw him stake his claim as the first choice left back.
Wimbledon were rebranded as Milton Keynes Dons in 2004. As of 2011, Lewington is one of only two former Wimbledon players remaining at MK Dons, the other being Goalkeeper David Martin.

On the 21st of March 2011, Lewington lead his team to a 1-0 victory over promotion rivals Peterborough United, which continued The Dons' fine form with 5 wins on the spin, before MK were then knocked out of the play-offs by The Posh.
