Popular (song)

Popular is a song from the Tony Award-winning musical "Wicked". It is performed by the Broadway company's original Galinda (Glinda), Kristin Chenoweth on the original Broadway cast recording. "Popular" is sung to the not-so-popular girl Elphaba, Galinda's roommate. In the song, Galinda tells how she will help Elphaba to become popular like her: she tells of the proper lingo and the proper outfits, and how she's appalled by those who are not the most fashionable people out there. One of the show's most well-known numbers, the song is available on the iTunes Music Store. It currently has a higher sales rate than the musical's signature Defying Gravity. The song was composed by Stephen Schwartz who received a Grammy Award for his work on the "Wicked" cast recording that has gone on to be certified Platinum.

Trivia

Popular is sometimes sung during the Maid Sing Along at The Adventurers Club at the Pleasure Island complex at the Walt Disney World Resort. When the song is sung, it is normally sung to a male member of the audience, who is portraying the Maid's little sister.
