"KEWLopolis" is a three-hour children's programming block that began on CBS on September 15, 2007 replacing the KOL Secret Slumber Party which premiered on September 16, 2006 which in turn replaced "Nick Jr. on CBS" (later "Nick on CBS"), which was jointly produced by Viacom and Nickelodeon before CBS and Viacom became two separate companies. All programming in this block is in compliance with Federal "E/I" requirements -- as mandated by the Federal Communications Commission. The block is programmed by Cookie Jar Entertainment (the successor to block creator DIC Entertainment) in conjunction with American Greetings (the former also programmed the previous Secret Slumber Party block). The block is also a tie-in with a monthly teen magazine, "Kewl", which was established in part by DiC in May 2007.

History

which aired both on television and onlinehttp://mediaweek.com/mw/news/networktv/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002725721] This alliance was what led to the name change for this block, and also because some of the programs were airing on Sundays (depending on the market).

In mid-2007, KOL withdrew sponsorship of the block. [http://www.animationmagazine.net/article/7271] Afterwards, CBS and DIC announced a new partnership with American Greetings Corporation to produce the new KEWLopolis programming block.

On June 20, 2008, it was announced that DIC would be acquired by Cookie Jar Group. [ [http://www.dicentertainment.com/press/details.php?148 DIC To Merge With Cookie Jar] "DIC Entertainment"] The deal was completed on July 23, 2008. As the block airs at different times on CBS stations (some air it in one day, while others split it to air on both Saturday and Sunday, and some may not air all of the programs), CBS (as with any network) and the block's producers ask viewers to check local listings to find out when the shows air in their area.
