The Coca-Cola Dome is an event venue located in the north of Johannesburg, South Africa. The seating capacity is 19 000.[1] The Dome opened in 1997 and covers about 11,000 square metres.

The previous sponsor of The Dome was MTN (a South African cellular network) and the venue was named MTN Sundome. It is owned by Sasol Pension Fund and currently managed by Thebe Exhibitions (until 2014).[2]

The Dome is situated adjacent to Northgate Shopping Centre on the corner of Olievenhout Avenue and Northumberland Road, in the suburb North Riding, a short distance west of the N1/Western Bypass highway.

The venue is 45 km from OR Tambo International Airport, 16 km from Lanseria Airport and 20 km from the Sandton business centre.

The Dome has been host to a variety of events such as trade and consumer exhibitions, concerts featuring local and international stars, corporate banquets, international conventions, and indoor sporting events. Some of these events include rock concerts, The NAG LAN at rAge and various expos.


South Africa Live Earth concert

On 7 July 2007 the South African Live Earth concert was held at the dome.

Celebrate Africa: The Grand Finale concert

On July 9, Italian pop tenor Andrea Bocelli headlined the "Celebrate Africa: The Grand Finale" concert of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, at the Coca-Cola Dome, to mark the end of the World Cup, two days before the World Cup final.[3][4] During the concert, Bocelli was joined by Canadian rock star, Bryan Adams, Italian flautist, Andrea Griminelli, and South African singers, Nianell and Pretty Yende.[5][6] FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, South African president, Jacob Zuma, and Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, were among the 12,000 in attendance.

Other Events

In 2003, the Dome was the site of the 4th IIFA Awards, the premier event to honor both the artistic and excellence in Bollywood.
