Originally from California, Michael got his start as a church guitarist in San Jose, California at age 11. He studied jazz at
San Jose City College under Dave Eshelman from 1981 to 1983. In 1984, Michael married and moved to Oregon. He opened Starlight Recording in Southern Oregon and established himself as a producer, engineer and session guitarist, later moving to Portland and then back to Southern Oregon. From 1986 to 1995 Lewis toured the Western U.S. performing concerts in churches of various denominations. In 1996 Lewis moved his family to Nashville and continued his studio work based out of “Music Machine,” a studio located across from theASCAP building onMusic Row which now longer exists. In 1997 Michael moved his recording studio to his suburban Nashville home and toured as a sideman for Curb Recording Artist, Jamie Slocum.Michael became the guitarist for the Nashville based Radio Daze big band in Nov. of 1996 and was their primary guitarist until 2001. Michael continued to perform with Radio Daze as a first call sub and performed hundreds of shows with the group until 2007. While in Nashville, Michael performed with many different artists in most of Nashville’s venues. He also performed with the Skyline Drive Band during the summer of 2007.
He has released projects for One Music/First Comm, a large provider of production library music and commercials for Market Image Inc. which are aired in regional markets across the country. Michael’s One Music projects have reportedly aired in more than 10 countries internationally.
Michael became an endorsed artist with
Taylor Guitars in 1998 and later added endorsements withElixir Strings ,Fuchs Audio Technology (amplifiers),Celestion Speakers ,Robert Keeley Pedals ,Furman Sound (Pro Audio Equipment) andLava Cables .In 2005 Michael became a representative for Fuchs and operated as the A&R for their Nashville based artists until 2007. Michael has since opened an online music store called Michael Lewis Music or Radical Tone at RadicalTone.com. Through the website Michael tests and sells most of the gear he endorses. He also writes a newsletter entitled “The Tone Zone” which is distributed to a list of guitarists interested in boutique tone. He is highly regarded as a jazz, blues and Christian guitarist:
In December 2006, Michael was named in the top 48 out of 1500 applicants to the [http://independantartistregistry.com Independent Artist Registry] and was included in their directory of top independent artists for 2007.
In 2008, Michael moved to a suburb of Spokane, Washington where he continues to work as a session guitarist, producer and music equipment rep. His session work and producing are done remotely via the internet.
