Modesto, California , located in theSan Joaquin Valley . Although when it was opened in 1972 to an enrollment of 975 students, comprised mostly of freshmen and only a smattering of upperclassmen who transferred from other schools voluntarily, Beyer was originally designed to serve approximately 2000 students. By the time the first class of freshman had advanced to seniority, enrollment was about 1800. With the addition of numerous portable buildings, the current number of enrolled students is 3150.When built, Beyer was on the outskirts of the city, halfway between Riverbank & Modesto. In anticipation of the 1976 United States Bicentennial, the Patriots were chosen as the school's mascot, and the school colors chosen as red, white, and blue.
Beyer High was intended to incorporate the latest advances in the science of education, the most prominent of which was Daily Demand Scheduling (DDS). It taught students the fourth R (Responsibility). DDS worked so well that school administrators from around the world would tour Beyer to observe how it was done. Unfortunately, DDS was terminated in 1981-82 school year by a decision of the Modesto City School Board, over the objections of administrators, staff, students, and parents.
Beyer High School is renowned for its outstanding Marching Band and Color Guard team. Their rise to excellence started under the instruction of Bill Parks back in the mid 1980s, and currently continues under the guidance of Blair Williams, they are ranked 1st in the State for their division and have been for the last three years in a row. The band has won many other awards and is considered one of the top ten in the nation.
Also to be noted was the highly successful Speech and Debate team. Even though most students involved are considered socially inadequate, under the tutelage of Ron Underwood Beyer's debaters went on to win numerous state and national awards. Equivocally these students have become Masterdebaters.
Famous celebrities who have attended Beyer include Timothy Olyphant, famous actor, who graduated in 1986. See his bio here [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0648249/bio] .
