The Houma-Bayou Cane-Thibodaux Metropolitan Statistical Area is a metropolitan area in the
Acadianaregion of southern Louisianathat covers two parishes - Lafourche and Terrebonne. As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 194,477 (though a July 1, 2007 estimate placed the population at 201,137). The parish seat of Lafourche Parish, Thibodaux, is located 15 miles NNW from the parish seat of Terrebonne Parish, Houma. Bayou Cane is a suburb of Houma that is commonly referred to by locals as Houma. The metropolitan area is commonly referred to by locals as the "Houma-Thibodaux" area.
The metropolitan area's main road is U.S. Highway 90, which runs east to west and passes directly between Houma and Thibodaux.

censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 194,477 people, 68,084 households, and 51,692 families residing within the MSA. The racial makeup of the MSA was 78.13% White, 15.40% African American, 3.91% Native American, 0.74% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.50% of the population.
