Galliano is a census-designated place on the Bayou Lafourche in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 7,356. It is part of the Houma–Bayou Cane–Thibodaux Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Galliano is located at coor dms|29|26|55|N|90|18|26|W|city (29.448539, -90.307274)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 11.0 square miles (28.5 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 7,356 people, 2,599 households, and 2,032 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 669.7 people per square mile (258.7/km²). There were 2,753 housing units at an average density of 250.6/sq mi (96.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.33% White, 0.69% African American, 4.49% Native American, 0.80% Asian, 0.61% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.74% of the population.

There were 2,599 households out of which 38.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.8% were non-families. 17.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.18.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 27.5% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $31,419, and the median income for a family was $36,136. Males had a median income of $35,283 versus $16,576 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $13,910. About 12.8% of families and 15.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.0% of those under age 18 and 21.1% of those age 65 or over.
