Haji Omar (1951 - October 26, 2008) was the amir (leader) of an Islamic political organization. He has been described as amir of the Pakistani Taliban. Omar was born in 1951 in the village of Kalushah some six miles (10 km) from Wana, South Waziristan, FATA. He was elected the amir after the death of Nek Muhammad Wazir. Omar spent several years fighting the Soviets in Bagram and Kabul in Afghanistan. He has two wives—one in Wana, and one he married later in Kandahar. Tall and well built, Omar spoke Urdu but was more proficient in Pashto and Arabic.
Haji Omar was killed during an US airstike in Pakistan on October 26, 2008.
