She is also keyboardist, songwriter and producer. She writes and sings her songs for Ladytron in her native Bulgarian as well as in English.
Of mixed Bulgarian and Hasidic background, Aroyo moved with her family to Israel when she was ten. When she was young, she used to play the accordion.[1] She is the only member of Ladytron who has never lived in Liverpool: Reuben Wu and Daniel Hunt were raised in the city and Helen Marnie studied there. While a DJ in London, Aroyo met Hunt through mutual friends and found that they were DJing the same kind of music.[2]
Besides her musical interests and abilities, she was a postgraduate research geneticist in the Oxford University's Biochemistry department.[3][4] She co-authored an article on "Species specificity in the activation of Xer recombination at dif by FtsK", published in Molecular Microbiology, 2003.[5]
Aroyo also collaborated with the indie pop band The Projects.[6] The song "Don't Eat Meat" featured Mira as vocalist.[7]
Personal life
Mira Aroyo is married to the photography curator Harry Hardie since 2010.[8] She is a Pescetarian.[9]
