Ontario , which would connect Highway 401 at Cambridge to Highway 403 at Brantford along the current Highway 24 corridor. Some politicians and industries have been lobbying the provincial government to begin construction of another superhighway in Southern Ontario. In late
March 2005 , the provincial government announced that anenvironmental assessment for Highway 424 has begun. Public information sessions are currently being held.Opposition
There now exists an association that opposes the construction of the 424. Residents in Brant County have gone before their council critiquing the proposed highway, given how cars contribute to global warming, urban sprawl and the paving over of farmland.
Barry Silverthorn , producer of the award winning documentary "The End of Suburbia ", showed a portion of his video to document these aspects. Most recently, theSix Nations of the Grand River Territory expressed disapproval for building the highway, saying that it will cross their land without their consultation.References
