The Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (Abbreviation: MINDS; Chinese: 新加坡弱智人士福利促进会; pinyin: Xīnjiāpō Ruòzhìrénshì Fúlì Cùjìnhuì), previously known as the Singapore Association for Retarded Children, is a voluntary welfare organisation catering to the needs of the intellectually disabled in Singapore. It currently operates five Special Education schools, three Sheltered Workshops, two Training and Development Centres, and two Residential Homes. It serves around 2,400 people with intellectual disabilities.
History
The Singapore Association for the Retarded Children was formed in 1962 when Warren Fox was appointed Founding President. The premises were at Towner Road but later moved to Ah Hood Road as the old ones were not big enough. SARC were given other schools which they changed into schools for their needs.
