Past events
The first was held April 22 – 23, 2006, at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. It included six exposition and workshop pavilions, a 5-acre (20,000 m2) outdoor midway, over 100 exhibiting makers, hands-on workshops, demonstrations and DIY competitions.
The second Maker Faire was held in Austin, Texas, October 20 - 21, 2007.[1]
Maker Faire 2008 was held on 3 and 4 May at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. Highlights of the Faire included a human-sized Mouse Trap board game, kinetic squid sculpture, bicycle-powered music stage, a solar-powered chariot pulled by an Arnold Schwarzenegger robot,[2] and over 500 booths from different makers. There were approximately 65,000 people in attendance.[3][4] Featured guests included Adam Savage, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, Lee David Zlotoff[5], Tony Baxter and Eepybird.
An additional 2008 Maker Faire was held on October 18-19, 2008, in Austin, Texas.[6]
The first Maker Faire in the United Kingdom took place on March 14-15, 2009, in Newcastle upon Tyne, as a joint venture with the Newcastle ScienceFest.
The 2009 Bay Area Maker Faire was held on May 30-31 at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. Guests included Adam Savage.
The 2009 Maker Faire Rhode Island was scheduled for September 6-19.[7]
Maker Faire Bay Area 2010 was held May 22 and 23, at the San Mateo County Event Center. Featured makers included Adam Savage, Eepybird, OK Go, ArcAttack, and The Crucible.
Maker Faire North Carolina 2010 was held on April 25.
Maker Faire Detroit 2010 was held on July 31 and August 1.
Maker Faire New York 2010 was held on September 25-26.
