Tri-Cities (British Columbia)

The Tri-Cities is an informal term used to describe three adjacent suburban cities (and two villages) in the north-east sector of the Vancouver, British Columbia metropolitan area. Combined, these five communities have a 2005 population of 210,390 residents [http://www.bcstats.gov.bc.ca/DATA/pop/pop/mun/Mun9605a.asp B.C. Municipal Population Estimates, 1996-2005] ] :

Other terms

Local residents also refer to the Tri-Cities as "District 43", after the public school district that serves this area. This is to avoid confusion with the cities of Richland, Pasco, and Kennewick in south-eastern Washington state, which are also known as the "Tri-Cities". The three Canadian city names are also sometimes conflated into "PoCoMo", especially since there is also a Como Lake in Coquitlam.

Media

The Tri-Cities area has access to a wide variety of media available in the Lower Mainland. Several community newspapers provide local coverage, including the "Coquitlam Now" and the "Tri-City News".
