History
Crumpler was founded in Melbourne in 1995 by David Roper and Will Miller (who had previously owned a bike messenger business), along with Stuart Crumpler. Stuart designed the original logo in 1991.[3]
Initially, the bags were designed for bike messengers - in particular those working for Roper and Miller's bike courier company, Minuteman Messengers. The bags soon had commercial demand and the range grew to include more colours and sizes, and the company expanded into Europe to include Siegfried Elgert and Jörg Bodenschatz as Partner.
Marketing
Crumpler held a “beer for bags” promotion in June of 2006, where they accepted beer as payment for their product. Their two New York stores received much interest from passing customers, who later returned with beer to exchange for bags. Many Crumpler products are given unique names, like "Barney Rustle", "Moderate Embarrassment", "Company Gigolo", and "Sandy Bitch".[2]
