Born in Xuanwei, Qujing, Yunnan, Republic of China, as Pu Qiongying (simplified Chinese: 浦琼英; traditional Chinese: 浦瓊英; pinyin: Pǔ Qióngyīng), the daughter of an industrialist, she became a member of the Communist Party of China in 1938.
Marriage
In 1939 she married Deng in front of Mao Zedong's cave dwelling in Yan'an. They had five children - three daughters (Deng Lin, Deng Nan, Deng Rong) and two sons (Deng Pufang, Deng Zhifang).
Death
She died on July 29, 2009, aged 93, in Beijing, People's Republic of China.
