Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) located at 9th Street, west of Jackson Street, in Hoboken,New Jersey . The station opened onSeptember 7 ,2004 .9th Street-Congress Street station is most notable for having an elevator that connects Congress Street on the Jersey City Heights with 9th Street in Hoboken. Use of the elevator is free but you do have to pay to ride the Light Rail. Before the elevator, the only way to get to the Jersey City Heights from Hoboken was to take Paterson Plank Road or Mountain Road in southern Hoboken, or the Viaduct in northern Hoboken.
Southbound service from the station is available to
Hoboken Terminal and to West Side Avenue in Jersey City (bypassing Hoboken Terminal). Transfers for service to 22nd Street in Bayonne are available at station stops between Hoboken Terminal and Liberty State Park. Northbound service is available to Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen. Connections to PATH trains toMidtown Manhattan and toNew Jersey Transit commuter train service are available at Hoboken Terminal. Transfers to PATH trains to Newark, Harrison, andDowntown Manhattan are available at Exchange Place. Transfers to PATH trains to Downtown Manhattan, Hoboken, and Midtown Manhattan are available at the Pavonia-Newport station.Transfers
