Hanumangarh District is a district of
Rajasthan state of westernIndia . The town ofHanumangarh is the district headquarters.The district is located in the extreme north of Rajasthan. It has an area of 12,645 km², a population of 1,517,390 (2001 census), and a population density of 120 persons/km². It is bounded on the north by Punjab state, on the east by
Haryana state, on the south byChuru District of Rajasthan, and on the west byGanganagar District of Rajasthan. The major work of the district is farming; major crops includerice ,bajra ,cotton ,sonamukhi ,wheat , and vegetables.This is the 31st district of Rajasthan. It was made as district on 12th July, 1994 from Sri Ganganagar district. Earlier it was one of the
Tahsil s of Sri Ganganagar district.The district contains the archeological site of
Kalibangan , (a town of theIndus Valley Civilisation ), andPallu .Language
Bagri [Lakhan Gusain 2000. Bagri. Munich: Lincom Europa (Languages of the World/Materials, 384)] , a dialect ofRajasthani language , is spoken by majority of population. Besides, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu are also in use in this district. The linguistic survery of Bagri was carried our by a team of scholars ofJawaharlal Nehru University , New Delhi in 1993 under the supervision of professorLakhan Gusain , (who himself is from Hanumangarh district and now professor atJohns Hopkins University , Washington, DC) and it was a major development for linguistic work on Bagri. A lot of research work (given in references) is done on Bagri in recent times.Now, Bagri has a reference grammar, dictionary, primers, and other reference material. The prominent poet on Bagri was Chander Singh "Birkali" who wrote "Loon" and "Badli" poems in the early-twentienth century.Some samples of Bagri are:

*Luxmi Kumari Chundawat (1911-): famous writer ofRajasthani language . Her works are "keh re Chakwaa Baat", and "Mumal".
*Lakhan Gusain (1966) :linguist ofRajasthani language and professor at thePaul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies ,Johns Hopkins University , Washington, DC.
*Asha Ram Sihag (1956-): IAS officer, Himachal Pradesh Cader.
*Raj Kumar (1971): A former student ofJawaharlal Nehru University and currently, an IAS officer posted atMumbai (Bombay).
* Smt. Santosh Kumari : (1952) Staff Nurse in Health Department. Posted in Municipality Hospital Sangaria. Devoted her life towards health of people and fighting against diseases, hunger, water for poor people. Sangaria's proud lady in Health Department.A well known personality among people over there. Strong Person by birth who believes in truth and God.
