- List of birds of Yuma, Arizona
The List of birds of
Yuma, Arizona is set up in a check-list format, but its style is not meant for a checklist. Its purpose will be to make notations referencing the "seasonal traits" of specific species. (For example theLong-billed curlew visits only the city proper in winter, and grassy expanses, exclusively(i.e. the City Parks, golf courses, etc).)The river reference is the
Colorado River , (the N-South border withCalifornia ). However, various water sources are in the environs, (the Gila River, etc; also, theGulf of California is a (–winter-range–) destination of some birds). The mountains, or higher desert locations may rise to above 1500 m, or about 4000 Ft. Yuma County's mountains are contrasted against SE Arizona'sSky island Mtns, part of the Madrean Sky Island Biome.A system for commonness of sightings
A scale of 1 to 10 is used where 1 is common and 9 is rare.
