Nirma University of Science and Technology popularly known as NU (or NU-IT, NIT or NIM) is an autonomous university located in Ahmedabad, India. It is one of the foremost universities in Gujarat sprawling across a big campus on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. It is also the oldest private university in the state of Gujarat.

It functioned under well-known Gujarat University earlier, but considering the excellent quality of education being provided, the Government of Gujarat established it as autonomous university named as Nirma University of Science and Technology under Act No. 10 passed by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Gujarat in April 2003. This development ensured the merging of all Institutes under the NERF into a single entity of Nirma University of Science and Technology. The university has also been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) of the UGC Act.

About the University

Nirma University

Functioning under the aegis of Nirma Education and Research Foundation (NERF) (established in 1994), the university is presently situated on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway and includes the following institutes:

  • Institute of Technology (ITNU), established in 1995,
  • Institute of Management (IMNU), established in 1996,
  • Institute of Diploma Studies(NIDS), established in 1997,
  • Institute of Pharmacy, established in 2003,
  • Institute of Science, established 2004,
  • Institute of Law, established 2007
  • A technology business incubator - NirmaLabs set up in 2004

All these institutions have emerged as centers of excellence offering various programmes ranging from undergraduate to doctoral levels in technology, engineering, business, pharmacy and sciences.

Considering the quality of education being provided, the Government of Gujarat established the Nirma University of Science and Technology under Act No. 10 passed by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Gujarat in April 2003. This development ensured the merging of all Institutes under the NERF into a single entity of Nirma University of Science and Technology. The university has also been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) of the UGC Act.

Institute of Management (IMNU)

'The Institute of Management', previously known as Nirma Institute of Management, is a constituent of the distinguished Nirma University. The Institute was established in 1996 with a view to promote excellence in management education and to prepare young men & women to meet the challenges of the developing corporate world. The institute offers admission to students in 2 year MBA full time program, 2 year MBA (Family business and Entrepreneurship) and a 3 year part time MBA for working professionals. [2]Students are admitted to the institute on the basis of their CAT score followed by group discussion and a personal interview. [3]
