civil parish in theWealden District ofEast Sussex ,England . It is located 8 miles (13km) east ofLewes , to the north of theA27 road between there andPolegate . It is a long straggling village. The church already existed at the time of its mention in theDomesday Book ; it is dedicated to St Mary. The ecclesiastical parish is linked with the village ofAlciston .John C Wilmot (1895–1964) took his title of Baron from the village.
