Ancient times
The city Palwal got its name from a demon,"Palwasur" who ruled this place during the reign of
Pandavas . He was killed byBalarama ,elder brother of ShriKrishna .In his memory,every year a festival is organised in palwal which is known as "Baldev Chhat Ka Mela". There is also a temple dedicated to Balaram near Railway Station of Palwal.British Period
During the British period, Palwal was a part of the Punjab Province and a part of Gurgaon district.

On 15th August, 1979 ,

On 15th August, 2008, on the occasion of 61st independence day of India, the district was formally inaugurated by the Chief Minister of the state, Sh. Bhupender Singh Hooda. It was on the same day that an important meeting with AITM chairman also took place.
